150th Anniversary of Women’s Ministries at Due West ARP Church
Customarily the women of the Due West ARP Church have celebrated the birthday of our organized women’s work which began on January 31, 1873. Consequently this year, the 150th anniversary, deserved special attention. The - est of our denomination. As you know the name has gone through several changes- now Women’s - ting program for such an occasion with Bible read- ing and prayer, and then singing, “On the Good and Faithful.” The fellowship hall was festively deco- rated with helium “Happy Birthday” balloons and daffodils at each table. A beautiful birthday cake was the dessert. The program was drawn from several historical sources and many interesting facts were related. In-
cluded was a quote from Greenville News in 1955 about the women’s determi- nation to raise money for the purchase of an organ, preferring than instrument over the tuning fork. We had a visit from Miss Elizabeth McQuerns (Becky Rich), a teacher at Due West Female College, who was the one responsible for the creation of the Society which began with nine ladies. The minister, W. L. Pressly, was enthusiastic about the venture and supported it by giving a devo- tional and teaching the Bible study for the ladies each month. In walked Dr. Pressly (Jim Gettys) who had a conversation with Miss McQuerns. The meeting concluded with singing “Great is thy Faithfulness” acapella and prayer by our minister, Scott Moore. It was a celebration to remember. Both actors, pictured below, were quite surprised by the changes in the
church building. Dr. Pressly entered carrying his candle, and was so stunned by the lights and the heat in the building, that he feared the building may be
Ms. McQuerns informed us that we can visit her grave just beyond the side door to the church.
Their ties to the modern day church really brought their characters to life.

Rev. Ronny Hull was ordained and installed as Associate Pastor of White Oak ARP Church in Senoia, Georgia, on January 8, 2023.
Sarah Kim
Sarah Kim was recognized on Se- nior Award Night at Westminster Christian Academy. She played on the Westminster Volleyball team that won Alabama 4A State Champions. She is the daughter of Pastor Soo and Mrs. Jen Kim of Hanmaum ARP Church, Madison, Alabama.
