New Vanguard Award

The IA Board of Directors recently announced a new award to honor those leading the way in new developments or ideas. Named the Vanguard Award, this recognition will honor a team of individuals, companies, organizations or other group entities that have executed an innovative installation project in the irrigation industry. Applications were accepted through the end of June, and the first winners of the award will be honored during the general session of the 2017 Irrigation Show and Education Conference in Orlando.

Train the Trainer — Back by popular demand

The second annual Train the Trainer program was held in February at IA headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia. The workshop introduced seasoned practitioners to the latest techniques for delivering powerful content and prepared new instructors with critical training skills. The program was led by veteran instructor Kurt Thompson, CGIA, CIC, CID, CIT, CLIA, CLWM. After participating in the two-day training event, attendees applied their newly honed skills during the Electrical Troubleshooting class on the third day. Due to the program’s success, another Train the Trainer event is planned for 2018.

Certification

The Certification Board continues to work to keep IA certification exams fresh and relevant to the changing industry. In 2018, the IA will conduct a certified agricultural irrigation specialist job analysis to assess the duties of an agricultural irrigation specialist to ensure the exam is assessing the skills needed to do the job right. The meeting will be facilitated by a psychometrician and will include approximately seven industry experts from various geographic regions. Conducting job analyses ensures that IA exams are legally defensible and based on what individuals within the profession do in the field and how they apply their knowledge.
