will deliver water to the wider distribution network rather than extending the existing canal. This pipe is the largest used in irrigation in New Zealand to date. The GRP pipe is currently being manufactured in Australia and will be shipped to the construction site in four shipments.

Around 220 construction and design staff are currently working on the project. Stage 2 will involve laying around 180 kilometers of pipe between May 2017 and May 2018, working with over 150 farming families along the way.

The total project cost for stage 2 is expected to be close to $200 million (New Zealand currency), and it is scheduled to be fully operational by Sept. 1, 2018.

A smaller sub-scheme, the Sheffield Water Scheme, covers 4,300 hectares and will supply water to around 30 farms. This component will supply irrigation water, stock water and potentially water to nearby towns.

The Sheffield Water Scheme is physically separate from other stages of the CPWES. It will include 37 kilometers of pipeline and contain seven pump stations supplied from a new 2 million cubic meter storage reservoir currently under construction at Sheffield.

The Sheffield Water Scheme project is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed and ready to commence operation in October this year.
