female in a security environment. “The way you push through it is you do a good job. One of the things I like to think about on diversity and me and this business in general is those things exist. I know I am African-American, and I am a female. Those things are better now, but we still have a way to go in this industry. I think about those things for a moment, and then, I put them to the side. I have a job to do. Same thing to do with that example. I thought about it for a moment when I went to meet- ings but didn’t let it stay in my psyche because I have a job to do. As long as I do the job, I’m charting a course for people who are coming behind me. I am setting an example for people coming behind me and will have the opportunity to have this role. “I love that we have a diversity initiative within the IAVM Founda-
tion (where Erwin sits on the Board of Trustees). That is a breath of fresh air. It is a journey. It’s not something you can put a stamp on, check a box, and say it’s done. We hit our numbers, so we can move on to other things. It doesn’t work that way. We understand that, but this initiative within the Foundation has received so much attention and desire for participation.
