HAPPENINGS Diane Kuenzi Passes Diane Kuenzi
It is with extreme sadness that we share the passing of Diane Marie Kuenzi. She was surrounded by family at home in Salem, Oregon, as she left this earth on September 3. Diane was born August 12, 1953, in Tillamook, OR, to Alfred and Mathyl Gulstrom. She met Myron Kuenzi at Oregon State University. Tey were married on August 24, 1974. Tey lived in Salem where they raised their family.
In 1990 they started Kuenzi Turf & Nursery with 35 acres of sod and were long time TPI members. Te operation has expanded into 500 acres including deciduous bare root trees, Japanese maples and specimen shade trees.
Diane enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, sewing projects and giving of her time to others. She leaves behind her husband, Myron, of 44 years and her children: Sara, Tamara, Ruth (Rick) Metzger, Zach (Rachel), Melanie and Josh. Her grandchildren: Lee, Trisha, Wyatt, Serena and Ty Metzger and Courtney, Tiffany and Claire Kuenzi. Her sisters: Joyce (Frank) Hobizal of Scappoose, OR, Janet (Roger) Henderson of Elmdale, KS, and Lori (Tim) Schiewe of Sisters, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Diane was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. She will be remembered for her warm, compassionate smile, the twinkle in her eye, little wink, and the love she had for all she met. Even through her short battle with liver cancer, she kept that smile and positive attitude. Funeral services were held September 8.
TPI Member Chad Price Reports Passing of his Father
Chad posted the following on Facebook on October 6: Dad (big Don) passed peacefully this afternoon with us by his side. God had his hand on us, it was powerful. He is with our Lord and we are so grateful. Rodd and I are so blessed to have loving parents that live an example for us and our family. He loved Carolina Green and all of the great folks we work with and for. Our hearts are full. God is good.
Donald Herman “Don” Price was born November 18, 1936. Services were held on October 8, in Monroe, NC. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Price and Carolina Green Corp. family.

ScienTurfic Sod Celebrates 50th Anniversary
ScienTurfic Sod, owned by Don Schlup, is celebrating 50 years of growing turfgrass in Adams County, CO, selling over 11,000 acres in the Metro Denver market.
Before entering the sod business, Schlup taught biology at Tomas Jefferson High School in Denver. Tough he left the classroom he didn’t stop teaching, bringing his passion to educate to the business world.
Originally ScienTurfic leased land near Denver. As the metropolitan area grew, relocations became necessary. Today, primary farming operations are located on 480 acres southeast of Brighton and northwest of Denver International Airport. Originally, the company operated exclusively as a wholesale nursery supplying sod to landscapers who installed the sod for their customers. Today, ScienTurfic provides sod to both the wholesale and retail markets. Customers can pick up sod at various locations, have sod delivered, or installed.
To reach the customers who prefer “doing it themselves.” ScienTurfic decided to bring the farm closer to the customer by setting up “grass shacks” at various garden centers around Denver. ScienTurfic also serves Home Depot, Lowe’s and other box stores. Sod can also be picked up at one of four marketing locations or purchased online.
Schlup is a member of the Rocky Mountain Sod Growers Association, Turfgrass Producers International, and Denver Rotary. Don, and his wife Margo, are deacons at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church. Tey are grateful to all of the customers and employees that have helped them achieve this significant milestone.
