NALP’S TOP ACCOMPLISMENTS: WORKING FOR YOU IN 2016
PROMOTING THE INDUSTRY INFLUENCED GOVERNMENT LEADERS NALP’s government affairs team and members visited with more than 100 congressional offices to discuss H-2B, pesticide regulations, the Clean Water Act and other in- dustry-relevant proposals. Staff also met with Department of Labor and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials to discuss H-2B processing delays and efficiency concepts and served on nearly a dozen committees and industry coalition efforts to help ensure that the interests of landscape professionals were represented, understood and articulated.
INFLUENCED THE PUBLIC We secured 10 national broadcast segments this spring (CNN’s HLN and Fox and Friends), building our reputa- tion as a trusted authority on lawn care and landscapes, and we earned more than 200 million media impressions (broadcast, print and online) through aggressive public relations efforts that showcase the value of healthy lawns and landscapes and the expertise offered by professionals.
DEFENDED THE INDUSTRY We defended the integrity of the industry by authoring numerous letters to the editors and op-ed pieces when the media published inaccurate information. The Public Affairs Advisory Council produced more than a dozen new videos, fact sheets and infographics to help members educate government officials and the public about the industry.
EXPANDED OUR VOICE TO CONSUMERS We launched the
LoveYourLandscape.org website for consumers, housing more than 200 articles, videos and other resources on lawn care and landscaping, with fresh content added monthly. The website directs consumers to the “Hire a Pro” feature to find NALP members in their area. The LoveYourLandscape brand also includes social media outlets on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube, attracting tens of thousands of followers.
RELEASED DATA PROMOTING THE VALUE OF LANDSCAPES NALP partnered with the National Association of Realtors on a report that demonstrates the return on investment and “Joy Scores” of various landscape improvements. The project surveyed NALP members, realtors and consum- ers, and the results paint a positive picture of the value of residential landscapes. NALP also released a national consumer survey to support National Lawn Care Month. The survey showed that people valued their lawns but didn’t have enough knowledge to care for them properly, demonstrating the need for professional help.
PROVIDING NEW EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED IVY LEAGUE LEADERSHIP EDUCATION NALP partnered this year with Cornell University to bring Ivy League education to landscape and lawn care contrac- tors at Leaders Forum 2016 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
