Gian Paolo Dallara graduated from Politecnico di Milano University with a degree in aeronauti- cal engineering, and then joined Ferrari in 1960, and next year moved to Maserati. In 1963 he was hired by Lamborghini as their chief designer, where he (along with Paolo Stanzani, and Bob Wallace) designed the chassis of the Lamborgh- ini Miura and Espada. In 1969 he started to design race cars for
Frank Williams, founder and manager of the WilliamsF1 Formula One team. Then in 1972, Dallara founded and established Dallara Auto- mobili in Parma, Italy - an Italian chassis man- ufacturer for various motor racing series. (Most notable for its near-monopoly in Formula Three since 1993) Dallara also produces the chassis used by the IndyCar Series, Indy Lights, GP2 Se- ries, World Series by Renault, GP3 Series, Super Formula and ADAC Formel Masters and is one of the manufacturers in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series. In recent years the engineer- ing activities have expanded considerably (now represents 40% of total sales), both in terms of the racing cars and high performance road cars.
