DC FAQs

By WSCA Staff

I didn’t make it to Legislative Day at the Capitol. Did I miss anything, and what can I do now to help advance the WSCA legislative agenda?

Well, yeah…if you’re not there, you’re missing out. But you weren’t alone; this year saw one of the smallest Legislative Day turnouts in recent memory. (Thanks everyone who did come out!)

Even if you weren’t able to get an appointment with your legislators or you didn’t attend the January 29 event, you can still contribute to the WSCA legislative agenda. Our primary bill this year was SB 5899, creating a license endorsement to allow qualified licensed chiropractors to perform chiropractic diagnosis and adjustments on nonhuman animals. Even though your scope of practice does not specify what species you’re allowed to treat, effectively making animal chiropractic legal in Washington, the laws governing veterinary medicine limit the ability to advertise animal chiropractic services and/or to accept payment for them. SB 5899 would have created an

endorsement that enabled qualified chiropractors to do just that. While our bill did not advance beyond the Senate this year, we will promote it again next year and we encourage you contact your legislators about it then. (It will have a new bill number next year, so stay tuned for that information.)

I’ve heard about the

Chiropractic Future Strategic Plan, but I have no idea what it is. What should I know about it?

Way back in 2019 (I know, a lifetime ago), ChiroCongress and the Future of Chiropractic Forum determined there was a need for a unified vision for the next 50 years of chiropractic. In 2020, that plan was laid out with an implementation timeline of 2021-2026. The Strategic Plan’s goals and objectives include:
