has Another Award-Winning Year At
he CAI National Conference in Orlando on May 6, the Illinois Chapter received two National Achievement and Excellence Awards for its 2015 programs and two individuals were also recognized. The chapter earned an award in the Leadership category for the establishment of the Downtown Program Committee. The Leadership award is given to chapters who develop training, development and/or recognition programs that empower volunteers and/ or members to be effective, efficient leaders. The Downtown Program Committee initially operated as a sub-group of the Program Committee. Their focus is on creating programs and networking events that meet the specific needs of city members. The Program Committee Co-Chairs mentored the sub-group and they were quickly able to operate on their own as a fully-functioning, successful committee. The city education events are some of CAI’s most-attended programs thanks to the efforts of the Downtown Program Committee.

The Illinois Chapter won another award in the Public Affairs category for our ILAC Fundraiser. The Public Affairs award is given to the chapter who best promotes CAI as the industry’s leading advocate for responsible communities to the public. Last year the Fundraising Committee was established
and set out to raise money to fund the Illinois Legislative Action Committee (ILAC) lobbyist. They held an event at Zanies, an online auction, and collected donations which helped offset the lobbyist expense. The effort was so successful, the committee held a similar event this year.
Kara Cermak of Rowell, Inc., AAMC, was awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award for her hard work and dedication to “Community Next: 2020 and Beyond” an initiative launched in 2015 to define the future of the community association model.
Hank Goldman, Board President of
The Residences at Sherman Plaza, a DK Condo managed association, was chosen as the National Winner of the Community Association Board Member Appreciation initiative for his efforts in community, energy-efficiency, and common-area redecorating.
