FROM THE PRESIDENT

Brendan Whelan, CIRMS Brown & Brown Insurance

First and foremost, I would like to introduce myself to any members that I have not yet had the pleasure to meet. My name is Brendan Whelan and I am with Brown and Brown Insurance Services, formerly known as Smith Insurance. My company and family have been involved in this chapter of CAI for decades and were among the first ever Diamond Sponsors. I am honored to be the fifth member of our company to serve as chapter president.

I have had the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors for the Keystone Chapter since 2018. I have also held roles with the chapter on the Golf, Gold Star, and Member Engagement Committees, along with the Central PA and Business Partners Councils. There are too many people to name that have helped me learn and grow within the organization but, I would be remiss, if I did not thank our Immediate-Past President, Lynne Hartmann. She has been an incredible leader and friend during the years that we have served together on the board. I would also like to thank the CAI staff. Tony Campisi, Michael Shaw, Amanda Henderson, Jenn Ferris, and Charlena Frank work very hard on behalf of the membership and have provided stability and commitment for our overall success.

During my time at CAI, the organization has gone through a lot of changes but the chapter’s dedication to improve upon the education provided and networking opportunities have remained a core strength. Needless to say, continued growth and financial health are paramount to help the chapter thrive. To that end, please don’t be afraid to share your ideas with the board or staff so that member engagement and value continue moving in positive directions.

6 JANUARY | FEBRUARY 2025

During 2025, I will frequently reference our westward expansion and exciting events calendar. We are off to a great start in the Pittsburgh area. Added focus there will be mutually beneficial. We can provide education, resources, and networking opportunities while their management companies, community managers, homeowners, and business partners assist with growing the reach of the Keystone Chapter.

Signature events like Community Live! — our conference and expo — and the Excellence Awards Gala will look a little different in 2025 but will be special and unforgettable. This Spring, our conference and expo will be in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for the first time. The Lancaster County Convention Center is an excellent venue and is located in a vibrant part of town with lots to do in and out of the Convention Hall.

The Excellence Awards Gala will be at the Franklin Institute and will be the culmination in our yearlong celebration of the 50th Anniversary for CAI Keystone. Anyone that attended the 40th Anniversary Gala knows how incredible that milestone event was and the goal is to top it.

There will be some changes and hurdles this coming year but simply resting on our laurels would lead to stagnation. As a membership, it is my hope that we can work together to bring the Keystone Chapter to new heights.
