Featured Athlete /// Danijah Fluellen, Capital City HS Defensive Story by: Bryan Hudnell Photography by: Adyson Photos

Capital City’s Danijah Fluellen takes defense to heart. Fluellen was rewarded defensive player of the year on both the Lady Cavaliers bas- ketball and softball teams. She’s also a soldier in the National Guard. Fluellen has embraced all these things as a part of her identity. “I try to continue my hard-working grind, run as hard and fast as possible, and defend everything like my life would be over if anything passed me,” Fluellen said. “Athletic success comes from hard work, dedication, motivation, a positive mindset, and believing you can do anything you put your mind to.”

When it comes to competition, Fluellen thrives on the intensity of it. “I’ve always had lots of energy, always wanting something to do, and wanting to prove to everyone what I’m made of,” Fluellen said. “I’ve always liked good and helpful coaching that makes work-time fun and serious.” For Fluellen, competing in the athletic sphere has allowed her to feel right at home. Whether it’s with her teammates or her family supporting her, sports have always brought the best out of Fluellen.

“I know that I have people rooting for me, and I have to keep striving for them. I’m trying to set an example for my younger siblings and cousins, younger players, and people who aren’t on the right track in life.”
