he Brice-Sanders Foundation does an outstanding job providing camps in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. It’s the desire of the Brice-Sanders Board to keep registration costs low for the families that attend to avoid creating a barrier for entry while also allowing students and families to serve as Staff without cost. While the Brice-Sanders Foundation is an agency of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, they are not currently receiving Denominational Ministry Funds. How do they bridge the gap between the income they receive from campers and the expenses they incur at camp?

One of the ways the Brice-Sanders Foundation seeks to raise funds is through the encouragement of their staff and counselors to raise the cost for their participation. The cost to attend camp is roughly $500 per person. For my family of 5 to attend Camp Joy Virginia there is a cost of $2,500. I approached my local church First Associate Reformed Presbyterian of Rock Hill, SC in my efforts to raise these funds. Between the Missions Committee and Women’s Ministry, First ARP supported us with a donation to the Brice- Sanders Foundation of $1,500. Last year our family was able to raise close to $5,000 to support the work of Camp Joy Virginia. I have already begun seeking funding this year  The Brice-Sanders Foundation is providing an excellent way for churches to support their youth as they seek to be the hands and feet of Christ. It’s not uncommon to hear of churches supporting those who seek to do short and long-term missions. He has not omitted the hard parts or uncomfortable parts but has labored through in his efforts to remain faithful to the teachings of Scripture. This is the aim of Camp Joy as well. To remain faithful to what Scripture teaches and

provide an opportunity for those with disabilities to hear the gospel proclaimed. An opportunity to understand that we’re all created in the image of God and have inherent worth no matter our abilities. Camp Joy is more than simply a week of fun. It’s a week committed to the teaching and preaching of the gospel in an effort to remain faithful to the promises of God and to bring lost sinners home through the power of the Holy Spirit. Lives are changed at Camp Joy, and that impact directs people into careers that serve the disability community in profound ways for the glory of God. Whether that’s through becoming an occupational therapist, speech therapist, or a self-contained special educa- tion teacher. More important than career paths; I’ve seen lost counselors hear the gospel and give their lives to Christ while at Camp Joy. Lives are affected by Camp Joy, and those moments change how we spend the rest of our lives and eternity!
