Bonclarken Barbara Sherr l
CHIP SHERER President
f you visited Bonclarken be- tween 1982 and 1999, there’s a good chance you were wel- comed, served, or helped in some way by Barbara Sherrill. Her gentle spirit, tireless work ethic, and warm hospitality were hallmarks of her time with us. Barbara passed away on March 5 after many years of de- clining health, and I want to take this opportunity to remember her. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Barbara had just com- pleted her nursing training when she met Dale Sherrill, a young U.S. Army soldier stationed at nearby Fort Meade. Their relationship blossomed and they were married in 1965. Dale, a lifelong ARP from Statesville, North Carolina, had deep family ties to Bonclarken. After his military service, the couple spent a short period living on the grounds of Bonclarken while Dale sought work in Statesville. Though their initial stay was brief, it made a lasting im- pression on Barbara.

could think of it. When she met guests, she always made them feel welcomed. Barbara’s kindness and friendship will be missed by all who knew her.” Holly Moore, our former Vice-President for Operations, worked with Bar- bara many years. Holly shared, “Barbara always was willing to take on extra She showed the love of Christ to every group leader, guest, and employee with whom she interacted. I am grateful and blessed by the time that I was able to work with her”. Whether greeting a guest, answering a phone call, or helping plan an event, Barbara did it all with a spirit of warmth and service. Bonclarken was a better place because of her wonderful spirit.
