Venardos Circus will de- lay its 2026 season opening until February when it debuts at the Crown Festival Park in Sugar Land (TX) February 19–March 1. Circus Vargas, UniverSoul Circus, Vazquez Circus, FL!P Circus,and Carden Bros. International Circus, among several smaller touring shows, are on hiatus during January and into February. However, the hardy European folks never let a little inclem-
ent weather keep them from enjoying a good circus perfor- mance or competitive festival. Several popular circuses and competitive festivals happen across the continent through- out the holidays and well
into January. Among them are
Cirque Beserk at the Megadome at Winter Wonderland London, England; Winter Circus in Helsinki, Finland; the WorldCircusShow in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Wintergarten Variète and Roncalli Weihnachtscircus in Berlin; and the famed Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione in Paris, France (where Jules Leotard performed the world’s first flying trapeze in 1859). Also in France, the Festival de Cirque de Massy is held
annually in late January in Massy while the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain convened in late January in Paris. The 48th Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo,
the annual meetings of the European Circus Association, the Fédération Mondial du Cirque (of which OABA is a Founding Member), and the Global Alliance of Circus Schools. Theatrical circuses highlight Water for Elephants: The Musical is now on tour. January stops included Wichita (KS) January 12–14; Lubbock (TX) January 16–18; San Antonio (TX)
January 20–25; and Houston (TX) January 27–February 1. The Award-Winning Broadway Show next treks to New Orleans (LA) February 3–8; Denver (CO) February 17–22; and Fayetteville (AR) February 24–March 1. Circus World Museum in Baraboo (WI) is closed for the
winter while the Tibbals Learning Center at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota (FL) con- tinues to promote The Greatest Show on Earth ex- hibition chronicling the Feld Family’s 59-year stewardship of America’s long-running circus. A historical home built in
1913 in Morris County (NJ) by Alfred T. Ringling, one of the original seven Ringling brothers, went on fire in late November. According to fire officials, the three-story, 26- room, 14-fireplace mansion was “badly damaged” by the blaze. And finally, Mark Cornell
