FEATURE Debbie’s Discernments By Debbie Powers Elevating Ourselves and Our Association Dear Family and Friends, T
he holidays are over, the state fair Association meet- ings are in full swing and our annual trade show in Florida is quickly approaching us. We have been very
busy lobbying for our P visa and, as I’m sure if you have read the other articles in this issue or past issues, you are familiar with our great progress. I have personally never been more positive about anything we have done in the past as I am, currently, with our successes. I want to personally reach out to everyone who has donat- ed to Representative Chuck Edwards. We wanted to say thank you to him for being the first champion that stepped outand addedhis amend- ment to the House Homeland Funding Bill by having a suc- cessful fundraiser for him. Well, we knocked it out of the park with over $112,000.00. He and histeamwereunbelievably thrilled, shocked, grateful and literally blown away at such an unprecedented amount, for a congressman! Our will- ingness to step up to the plate with many large donations ele- vates our association to plac- es we’ve never experienced before. Our lobbying team has said so many times that we play big… way above our league! We are like the little ants that pull one hundred (100) times their own weight. So once again, thank you for all those who generously donated and all those who donated to Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, Senator Collins, and Representative Andy Harris. Those fundraisers were also fabulous and will greatly help us advance our initiative through congress. Do not give up the fight and, by all means, do not stop PRAYING! In contemplating what to write about this month, I came
across one of my devotions that I felt apropos for this time. It was titled, “Do not compare yourself with others!” We each must take responsibility for doing the creative best we can with our own lives. When you know that a specific job was given to you, you should act on it and not try to throw the job off to someone else. Sometimes the assignment may include
great sacrifice but I can only say when we sacrifice, we are rewarded in the end — even if it takes a very l o n g time! Here is a little quick scenario of what I mean: A little boy named Jacob wanted to be like his friend Isaac,

he loved the way he walked and talked. Isaac, on the other hand, wanted to be like Charlie. There was something about his stride and his accent that intrigued him. Charlie, however, was impressed with Dean. Charlie wanted to look and sound like him. Dean, of all things, had a hero as well, Jacob. He wanted to be just
like Jacob.
So Jacob was imitating Isaac, who was imitating Charlie, who was imitating Dean, who was imitating Jacob. Ironically all Jacob needed to do was to be himself! Everyone can learn from others, but you can only find joy, contentment and ful- fillment in being who God cre- ated you to be. So stay in your own lane! Run your own race. Nothing good happens when youcompare andcompete. You will not be evaluated and rewarded by the talents of oth- ers, but instead on how faithful you were to execute the gifts HE gave you. Use your gifts to
the fullest! We all have them even though they differ vastly. That is what makes our world go round.
That is what makes a great team. Thanks again to all who attended and to all those who have
supported our tremendous efforts in Washington, DC! If you have never stepped up to donate, I encourage you to help us if and when the next call-to-action comes! It is so very critical to see our P visa come to fruition. We are getting closer than ever before. We have done what we know to do, I am now trusting my God to fulfill our mission!
