great-great-granddaughter of media mogul and philanthropist E.W. Scripps of San Diego (CA), has donated five circus wagons from her personal col- lection to the Tucson (AZ) Wagon and History Museum which are on display at the Tucson Rodeo Grounds. The wagons were “recreated circus wagons built on the original antique undercarriages.” The Macfarlane wag- ons have been seen by thousands in the Tournament of Roses Parade and the San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade, as well as the World Equestrian Games in Europe. And finally, Zachary Keller, the
actor who portrays circus veterinar- ian Jacob Jankowski in Water for Elephants: The Musical now touring the country, hadarecentup-close and personal encounter with Felix the elephant at the Maryland Zoo. Enthralled by the beautiful creature, he admitted that while performing aside Rosie (the stage puppet ele- phant in the production) was a “cool experience,” meeting Felix in person was “life-changing.” Remarkable what happens when open-minded people meet face-to-truckwithareallive elephant!

Circus Fund donations are used to help the OABA maintain the right of circuses and USDA licensed performing animal owners to provide Americans with educational exhibits and performances of exotic animals. Funds allow the Association to hire professionals to assist with legislative and regulatory challenges that threaten our members’ businesses. Those who contribute at least $25 will be listed in our Circus Fund Contribution Report in monthly ShowTime magazine as well as in the annual Midway Marquee Directory.
