I’ve been practicing Play Therapy for… 14 years.
My favorite item in the playroom is… my mother owl puppet with her 3 babies.
If I weren’t a Play Therapist, I’d… be a vocational rehabilitation counselor who helps people with disabilities get and keep jobs.
The last book I read is… Suffer Little Children: A Sister Fidelma Mystery set in AD 664.
My three goals for the upcoming year are... I just moved from agency work to private practice, my first goal is to get settled in my new office space.
I have gone to some training on trauma and the brainand would like to be better able to help parents andchildren understand how trauma affects the brain.
I want to continue improving my skills at helping the traumatic brain heal.
The song/music I can always listen to is… anything by Jimmy Buffett. He has a song for every mood I have.
The best advice I ever got was… from my dad. He said, “Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone.” Although I do believe that tears are important and I am not afraid to cry, I have learned more and more that anytime I can see humor in situations I am better able to find a path to peace.
I take care of myself by… reading mysteries with female detectives. I also pray, laugh, sing, and spend time with family. I try to exercise but that is still only a habit in progress.

2. My favorite item in the playroom... are cars. Many of my clients are drawn to the cars as they typically express what excites them, demonstrate control, show their creative side, etc.
3. If I weren’t a Play Therapist, I’d... return to being a middle school math teacher as I would still have the opportunity to work with children.
4. The last book I read... (Play Therapy Book) - Play Therapy with Vulnerable Populations - No Child Forgotten - edited by Eric J. Green and Amie C. Myrick; (non-Play Therapy Book) - It Worked for Me - In Life and Leadership - by Colin Powell.
5. My three goals for the upcoming year are... a. learn more about the use of symbols and myths in sandplay, b. join a peer consultation group with other Registered Play Therapists,
c. develop and carry out a research project to support the effectiveness of play therapy.
6. The song/music I can always listen to is... (Play Therapy Music) - Whatever music the client likes, typically (Pop music) and (non-Play Therapy Music) - Vanessa Williams (Adult Contemporary music).
7. The best advice I ever got was... always have a mentor and always be a mentor, there is so much to learn and to share.
8. I take care of myself by... daily practice of being present. I take several 10-15 minute walks outside and I notice the trees, flowers, smell the air, feel the temperature, etc.
