he goal of California’s Truck and Bus Regulation is to protect public health by reducing exposure to toxic diesel emissions from heavy-duty diesel-pow- ered engines. Te California Air Resources Board
(CARB) Enforcement Division works to ensure those fleets that did not achieve the required emission reductions through use of diesel particulate filters are brought into compliance, and that emissions reductions that were envisioned when the Truck and Bus Regulation was enacted are realized.
Many people in the CID industry are not aware that penalties can be assessed against a private community or management company for failure to comply with the regulation.
Penalties can be assessed for failing to verify hired fleets are in compliance even if the hired fleet does meet the require- ments of the regulation. Second, penalties are assessed for hir- ing a non-compliant fleet/vehicle. Penalties may range from $1,000 to $10,000 per day.
