“What is the strangest animal encountered you have had?”
I found a mama and baby ducks in the pool during an inspection. I was told the babies wouldn’t be able to get out of the pool on their own, so I spent some time chas- ing them around the pool trying to corner them and help them out. Animal Control came by and made a ramp out of a lounge chair and towel and they all wandered out and moved on!
, CMCA,
On my deck in the mountains, I noticed a baby squirrel across the street who it appeared had lost its way. It was flirting dangerously close to an agitated dog with little re- gard that it might be lunch for Bowser the Bull Dog.
Literally a minute later and to my great surprise, the naïve baby squirrel had made its way across the street, up my leg and through some baggy shorts I was wearing and perched itself on my shoulder. It was like out of a Disney movie! I wanted to break out into song, but I can’t sing so I just stood speechless.
Te story does not have a happy Disney ending unfortu- nately so I will spare you that. Te baby squirrel undoubt- edly is in squirrel heaven enjoying nuts and seeds - at least that is my hope.
Jerri Boone, PCAM,
I once managed a community of townhomes where residents was keeping multiple chickens in the front courtyard area and refused to remove them based on their claim that the chickens were emotional support animals.
As I was driving through the community during a site inspec- tion at High Horse Trails, I saw a riderless horse galloping down the horse trail that paralleled the street I was on. He ran pell-mell through the trail opening onto the street, and put on the brakes in the middle of the intersection during 4:00 p.m. traffic. Cars were quickly approaching and I com- pletely forgot about my extreme fear of horses, jumped out of my car, and approached him saying, “Here horsey, horsey.”
By then I had to hold up my hands to stop traffic, all the while singing, “Here horsey, horsey.” As I took hold of his reins, I realized how big he was! I managed to lead him back to the trail. As I was searching my brain for what to do next, he came up with something. Te horse body slammed me against a wall and stayed there. I was sure my demise was im- minent. Death by equine-squishing.
After what seemed like an eternity against that wall, his own- er came running down the trail to rescue me, er, I mean the horse. Tat horse will never know how close he came to get- ting hit by a car and making a trip to the glue factory.
