lower over the long term. Use of commercial electrical units will take more time to operate, but electric equipment has fewer parts, and there is no need to change air and oil fi lters, fi ll up with gas, or fi x leaks. Gas-powered equipment’s potential issues come with a higher repair cost including parts cost, repair labor, and machine downtime.
The benefi ts of electric equipment extend beyond your community to the world around us. It is important to look at the bigger picture when confronted with new challenges. It is very easy to take out budgetary frustrations on a vendor, but it’s important to keep in mind that we are all in this together. Acknowledging the professionals that work for your association
as people and not an expense can go a long way. Too many times I’ve met with boards that want to enhance their community and pay less at the same time. Fixing problems cost money but being empathetic to vendors should equate to exceptional results. Ask yourself what you really want for the community you live in and be realistic when budgeting for those costs. Homeowners who have respect for their community and the vendors that enhance the quality of living should be the ones to step up and join or form a landscape committee or even run for the board of directors. With good communication and cooperation, there is no hurdle that cannot be overcome.
