The November educational luncheon was a presentation by three California legislators who support the community association industry, including Assemblywoman Laurie Davies, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, and State Senator Josh Newman. The program was moderated by Louie A. Brown, Jr., Esq., CAI’s CLAC advocate. The program was coordinated by James C. Harkins, IV, of Cane & Harkins LLP, Vivian Amin of Keystone, AAMC, and Sara Robertson of Park West Landscape.


Takeaways from the program included the following:


TAKEAWAY #1: Legislative efforts are being made to address substantial increases in insurance premiums for condominium associations in designated high fire risk areas.


TAKEAWAY #2: There is legislative support for new legislation to amend existing law to generally allow for virtual meetings without the need for a declaration of a state of disaster or emergency by a Federal, State, or local governing body.
