MDA Virtual Provides Free Evening CE, Relevant Topics, Prizes

Register for Two December Events I

n October, the MDA launched MDA Virtual to provide free CE for members through one-hour sessions hosted on a weeknight from 6-7pm. The Zoom format includes a brief introduction, the main presentation, a question and answer session, and prize giveaways for those who attend the entire time. Even if you cannot attend the evening of the live event, you can receive a link to watch it on-demand and still get the free CE hour. The sessions are free thanks to MDIS as the primary event sponsor, as well as other company sponsors. While there is no cost, registration is required so attendees can be sent a link for entry into the Zoom session. The MDA Virtual CE is being provided in response to feedback following the Connect4Success virtual format. Members said they liked the short, weeknight sessions on a consistent basis. The MDA plans to continue to offer the series, especially with continued cancelation or postponement of events. For any questions, or to share topic ideas, contact Mandy Lewis, MDA Meetings Manager, at mandy@modentalmail. org. Find session information and registration at modental.org/virtualce.

Thus far, two sessions have been provided and are available on demand (with registration):

• MDIS Multiple Employer Aggregation Program (MEAP): What’s In It For You and Your Employees (October 20)

• Updates from ADA Legal, Government Affairs & Science Divisions (November 17)

In December, two events will be hosted, including: • COVID Ripple Effects—Identifying and Addressing Stress and Other Pandemic Related Impacts on You and Your Dental Team (December 1)

• ADA Practice Transitions Program: How Mentorship Can Enhance Your Career—No Matter What Phase You’re In (December 3)

VIRTUAL MODENTPAC, DWBF FUNDRAISERS

Due to the MDA House of Delegates being virtual this year, MODentPAC and the Dental Well Being Foundation had to get creative with giving contests. Both entities always get a great yearend boost from the House meeting as colleagues challenge one another to raise funds. Thanks to all members across the state who participated in our two virtual fundraisers, with results as fol- lows: For MODentPAC, 30 donors gave a total of $9,225! The “Component Battle for the MODentPAC Show Me the Money Trophy” was between Kansas City, St. Louis and Greater Missouri. This year’s winner was Greater Missouri for a total of $7,675 donated. For the Dental Well Being Foundation, 18 donors gave a total of $2,075. This fundraiser included a prize raffle. The two winners from 102 total entries were Dr. Mary Burke, winner of the Smartphone Photo Printer and Dr. Phil Batson, winner of the UVC Sterilizing Case. Many thanks to all our generous members for their support of these vital entities of the MDA.

R

ecently, the Greater Springfield Dental Foundation (GSDF) applied for a grant

through the Greene County CARES Act and learned in early September that it was awarded $25,000 to give to local charities.

Dr. Ashley Meyer, Greater Springfield Dental Society president, who helped author the grant application, presented an idea to the Foundation Board to use some of the money to create oral health care packages (tooth- brushes, floss, toothpaste) and deliver to all the participating schools that formerly hosted public health fairs in the Springfield Public Schools (where dentists did annual screenings) but were canceled this year due to COVID.

The MDA Foundation also was able to sup- port the GSDF with supplies for 432 care packages, due to fewer requests in the past year, again due to school closings and event cancellations. As well, the MDA Foundation shared its contact at Crest Oral-B to discuss discounted pricing on supply orders for charitable outreach.

In mid-November, the GSDF finished assem- bling 7,000 oral health bags (image above) for students in 1st, 3rd and 5th grades in Spring- field Public Schools. In all, the project was valued at $12,000 to benefit area students.
