Outreach In Action CONTINUED FROM PAGE 30
Then we have to start the same process all over on the upper lot. End dates have been given, but we’ll have to see how it all pans out. Regardless, waiting is a small price to pay for improvements.
What moves too slow for your taste at the MDA? Is it governance issues? Is it legislative agendas? Is it feedback on problems specific to your practice? I wish we had a magic wand to wave to quickly grant your wish, but my observation tells me differently. I actually appreciate the checks and balance democ- racy of our House of Delegates. We need the various views of our whole membership to establish good direction. Over at the Capitol dome, no one is setting speed records either. A committed legislative team and an involved membership is staying on top of issues and eventually getting them passed or eliminated for the greater good. But I lost count of the number of committee meetings and hear- ings and calls to action along the way. It’s a journey worth taking, but progress is often incremental. Someone once told me time is God’s way of keeping everything from hap- pening at once. That’s how MOMOM feels, and no one wants that breakneck pace year round. Instead, we need to adjust our speed and expectation so that in the end, we enjoy the gift of success and continue a culture of improvements.
I realize many of you rarely, if ever, get a chance or feel you have a reason to visit the MDA office—which is OK because, ulti- mately, the MDA is not a building. It’s all of us in concerted effort serving the profession. However, we need a spot to gather and be productive so we have this lovely building and parking lot. In 2018 you can pay us a visit and see our new lot and hopefully remember that it represents a few lessons we try to live by as an association. Happy Holidays! f
