profession to speak in one voice about the importance of Capped Fees Reform.

Insurance companies are giants at the Capitol, and insurance reforms are always tough to pass. We expect passing Capped Fees Reform will be an uphill struggle as well. But, “when everything seems like an uphill struggle, just think of the view from the top” (Unknown), and, we’re in luck because “Everybody pulls for David, nobody roots for Goliath.” (Wilt Chamberlain).

But, you don’t topple Goliath by standing on the sidelines. Accomplishing this mission will certainly take effort.

Now I do believe there is something to the power of positive thinking … believing people have success because of a positive outlook. Virgil said, “They can because they think they can.” And that is an important part of our job.

But success also takes hard work. “Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it.” (Unknown).

Our PAC has already put in a lot of hard work. They supported nearly 100 candidates this cycle, and 92 percent of those will be serving in the Capitol beginning in January. Several of the candidates the PAC has supported in the past also were successful in their bids to move from the House to the Senate and/or move up the ladder of seniority and leadership. While it may be true that "Too few rejoice at a friend’s good fortune" (Aeschylus), we can certainly be pleased with the work the PAC has done to support those who support us. And we can be pleased of the solid foundation they have laid for our legislative advocacy to be built upon “Because if you have a strong foundation like we have, then you can build or rebuild anything on it. But if you’ve got a weak foundation you can’t build anything” (Scalia).

It is now time for our members to add their individual voice to the Association’s call to action. “Individually, we are one drop. To- gether, we are an ocean.” (Satoro)

While dentists join MDA for many different reasons, there is one common trait that runs throughout the membership. MDA dentists un- derstand that their profession is so much more

than a job. They understand that “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” (Churchill)

I am confi dent that with everyone giving back to their profession, we can achieve reform this year, and I am hoping that somewhere in this article you found the inspiration to join our efforts. I also know that “The harder the confl ict, the more glorious the triumph.”

(Thomas Paine), and this one is set to be a great triumph.

If everyone joins together, I truly believe we will all witness the Governor sign his name to legislation, and we will be able to celebrate and shout “I am the greatest.” (Muhammad Ali)
