Innovator in Association
Management William C. DeMille, PCAM®
By Milena Radjenovich, Executive Vice President Chicagoland Community Management, Inc.
Why does Bill De Mille continue to stay active in this industry? Because
he wants to make a difference. Bill DeMille often answers this question the same way. After four decades and tireless hours of work each day, he continues to maintain a strong and active presence in the real estate industry, specifically focusing not only on community association management, but often joining the charge to forge changes within the industry.
Bill began his career 43 years ago as a property manager for J.S. James and Company.
In a short time, he quickly
developed himself as a skilled community association manager and was assigned to a large-scale condominium association located along Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive. Bill continued along this career path with the James Company for 27 years, serving as the company’s Executive Vice President from 1984 to 1996. His rewards came soon thereafter.
Habitat for Humanity presented Bill with their heralded Golden Brick Award. He earned it for his work with the Rogers Park Chapter of Habitat for Humanity on building renovations for condo conversions. With that, Bill was also

recognized for educating the new condominium owners on how to operate effectively and efficiently the new building they would call home.
Educating others in the industry is where Bill has gone above and beyond. In many ways, he has made a difference using multiple mediums. Upon joining CAI-Illinois, Bill attended the Illinois Chapter’s first conference and trade show. He informed the Chapter Executive Director of his concerns about how the educational session “Choosing a Management Company” was presented. The next year, he was asked to moderate an educational session titled “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of Association Management.” Subsequently, Bill has taught seminars, authored articles for various publications, and was the host of CAI-Illinois’ Common Interest Radio program that aired for many years on WBIG 1280 AM and then on WIND AM 560.
Bill has also received numerous awards from the CAI- Illinois Chapter. In the early years of his involvement with CAI-Illinois, he received the Rising Star Award recognizing newer committee members who have proven to be an asset to CAI–Illinois through their volunteerism. Later he received the Barbara D. Wick Award presented to those individuals who have made significant contributions to CAI on both the local and national level.
