Unfortunately, our district has lost another ice rink. As many of you may know, Belmont Iceland closed, and the group to save Bridgeport is still going strong. Tis leaves 12 rinks in all of Northern California, not including the seasonal rinks. Parent groups continue to seek financial support


in the hope of a new arena here in the Bay Area. It’s humorous that so many people think that Northern California, or the San Francisco Bay area, isn’t a place where skaters originate, but the truth is that numerous Olympians have hailed from this area, including many who started right here in ISI District 14 programs. Te 2016 District 14 Championships, once again held at

Tahoe Sports & Entertainment in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, had a record number of skaters. Tis year’s Skater Award went to Julian Chan of Vacaville Ice Sports and his coach, Crystal Miller. Te District Merit Award was presented to Jane Trockmorton of Skatetown. District 14 is happy to be sending Jane to the 2017 ISI/MIAMA Conference & Trade Show in St. Paul, Minn. ISI District 14 was a proud sponsor of the Adult Challenge

Costume Parties: ICE at the Parks hosted their annual costume party on Oct. 28. Prizes were awarded for costumes and each skater received a goody bag of treats. Te party was free for all. Coaches skated with the beginner skaters, talked to parents, played ice skating games with the skaters, etc. It is a great promotional event for the rink and the sport of ice skating.

Ice skating in Asia continued to thrive over the summer, with new ISI member rinks in Vietnam, Iraq, Japan, Thailand and Cambodia, as well as five new member rinks throughout China, in Beijing, Wuhan, Changchun, Rizhao and Shenzhen. Our growing membership now has


plenty of competitions to choose from with 23 Invitational events on our calendar, and six new events added in China. Skate Asia was hosted by Sunway Pyramid Ice in Kuala


Annual Open Competition, Sept.


Lumpur in August and 700 Skaters enjoyed the wonderful Malaysian hospitality and 10 days of exciting competition. Te four American referees were happy to revisit this great venue and were entertained by exhibitions by Julian Yee and Shoko Ishikawa, and some amazing team and individual events throughout the week.
