Welcome to The QA. In each issue of Community Assets, we’ll introduce you to one of our passionate volunteers.
This issue, we’re delighted to welcome Austin Papp, EIT, a Project Engineer with Joseph B. Callaghan, Inc. and a member of Keystone CAI’s Golf Committee. Welcome to The QA, Austin!
QA: How long have you been a CAI member?
AP: I have been a member of CAI for just about 2 years now
QA: What’s something that someone might be surprised to learn about you?
AP: I can juggle 5 balls at one time. Very random and very useless talent!
QA: What’s your favorite part of volunteering for CAI?
AP: My favorite part of volunteering for CAI is being a part of a collaborative effort to grow the industry. It’s nice to put aside work from time to time and simply catch up on life and get to know members of the organization. We are all extremely lucky to be part of such a diverse and interesting group.
QA: What advice would you offer to a young professional just starting out?
AP: As a young professional that is getting a little older (too quickly) I would extend the same advice to you that was given to me by Carol Shenk who was the previous Membership & Business Development Chair at CAI; JOIN A COMMITTEE! As a young professional it’s sometimes difficult to meet new people within such a well established industry and organization. If committees aren’t your thing then try to make a point to come to as many professional development events as you can. It is hard to quantify how beneficial attending meetings at CAI and other professional organizations has been thus far in my professional career but I have certainly learned a ton about the industry and met some amazing people along the way.
QA: What is your idea of perfect happiness?
AP: I don’t think perfect happiness is attainable! Happiness comes and goes and as they say, c’est la vie! Welcome happiness as it is present and look forward to its return when you are feeling down. Life is cyclic and that’s okay!
QA: What is your most treasured possession? 30 July | August 2021
THE QA
AP: Has to be the golf clubs. QA: When and where were you the happiest?
AP: Visiting Interlaken, Switzerland in 2017. Everything about that country was breathtaking. QA: What is your greatest fear?
AP: Wasting time, both in daily life and in the grand scheme of things. QA: What talent would you most like to have?
AP: Photographic memory. I literally can’t remember this morning. QA: Where would you like to live? AP: Scotland.
QA: Great answer for a golfer! What is the quality you most like in another person? AP: Curiosity. QA: Which living person do you most admire? AP: Bill Gates.
QA: What inspires you creatively, spiritually, or emotionally?
AP: Self reflection and a good meditation session. You have to be your own inspiration or it’s never going to work.
QA: What sound or noise do you love and / or hate?
AP: My favorite sound is the sound of a flushed golf shot. It’s the perfect marriage between artistry and athletic ability.
