“We need to be a people of genuine hope who profess that, beyond suffering and death, there is fullness of life, there is communion with God, and that will transform everything we know.”
profess to believe, then it has to put flesh on the bones of everything that I do in the world. We really are called to be a resurrection people and to live that out. Tere is such despair in the world, such suffering. We need to be a people of genuine hope who profess that, beyond suffering and death, there is fullness of life, there is communion with God, and that will transform everything we know.

Laura Kelly Fanucci: Te beauty of these in-person gatherings, the chance to connect with colleagues we haven’t seen in so long, to be in a room with hundreds of people, is something we used to take for granted. Early on in the pandemic, I wrote a poem on social media (in the middle of the night while nursing my newborn), called “May We Never Take Tese Tings for Granted Anymore”. Te poem went viral. It was translated into different languages, and composers set it to music. Te original post had something like 7 million views. I wrote about things like a handshake with a stranger, full shelves at the grocery store, the taste of Communion. When we are able to be in the same room and shake hands with strangers and share Communion together, I don’t want to slip back into the old ways where I just took that for granted. Every week at Mass and at every conference I attend, I remind myself what it was like to be deprived, and the isolation and the loneliness I felt when we couldn’t gather. What a gift now, to give thanks that we can do this again. Tere’s a charge to each of us to have a renewed appreciation for what it means to gather as the Body of Christ and to hold these gatherings sacred. I love having this convention on my calendar for next year. It’s holy to get to be in the physical presence of others. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be with all of you, and I’m looking forward to it. I really do think that the Holy Spirit is up to so much good, so much transforming fire. It will be a holy time.
