Impact of Doctor Robert and Barbara Lesslie on Camp Joy

amp was bubbling over with Joy when Barbara Lesslie as Bible Teacher and Robert Lesslie as Doctor came in the summer of 2013. Miss ‘B’ as Barbara was known would be seen loving on each camper making them feel they were the most important person on earth. She was constantly in motion at all activities after she taught Bible in the morn-


ing. Miss ‘B’ was beloved by each camper, counselor and staff. Our beloved Doctor Robert was an added addition as he would stand on the front lawn of the Hotel and play the bagpipes to wake all of us about 7:15 am. Doctor Robert once said that Camp Joy was Barbara’s happy place as she demonstrated her love to not only the campers but to each and every coun- selor and staff member. Barbara brought the Bible classes to life through skits which were performed by her own children and grandchildren of which Adah and Noah were a part of the Bible class. Robert was less energic than Barbara {we all were} but just as effective as the camp doctor as he encouraged the camp-


- ers to take part whether it was the climbing tower, zip line or swimming. He would cheer them on. Robert helped the campers prepare for their talent show by playing a part in the camper’s skit. He also participated with the counselors by leading a small prayer group. Robert always made sure the campers and counselors kept their focus on Christ. Dr. Robert and Barbara were very important to the campers, counselors, and staff which was seen at the closing pro- gram on Friday which Barbara had written. They worked on the props and scenery all year long in Rock Hill so the campers would not only hear God’s word taught but would see God’s word acted out. Robert, Barbara, Adah, and Noah will be greatly missed at Camp Joy and we will always be thankful that we shared the Camp Joy experience with them.
