“Making your site accessible helps protect your
company should it face legal action. It demonstrates your commitment to diversity and inclusion, improves the user experience, and expands your reach to a broader audience, providing a market advantage.” The Investis Digital report advises, “Businesses should also expect to see that accessibility will become a requirement for extended reality and self-service devices. “Mobile apps, video games, and virtual real-
ity may face closer scrutiny. Several app and game stores have already received demand letters and lawsuits. In September 2022, the U.S. Access Board issued an advance notice of upcoming accessibility guidelines for self-service transaction machines like self-checkout kiosks.”
Poor believes companies are trying to figure out
how to be compliant and looking for answers to make sure they are covered. “Te more conversations take place, the quicker everyone is on the same page and understands the rules,” he says, adding that he hopes those rules become standardized so not everything has to be asked every time. “We are on our own learning journey examining
how accessibility affects website building and design,” Poor sums up. “We’ve had to develop new skill sets, we’re not experts, but we’re learning as we go.” IR
