The future of

virtual meetings This past quarter saw many of SIR’s conferences go virtual—from the Annual Scientific Meeting to the Fellows Spring Practicum (FSP)—and set a stage for what future virtual conferences may look like, such as LEARN (Oct. 2) and the Virtual ACIR Fall Meeting (Oct. 8). (See more SIR VIRtual coverage, pages 18 and 19.)

Lower Extremity Arterial RevascularizatioN

(LEARN) While the FSP spread its education over a month to maximize opportunities and SIR VIRtual offered a weekend of programs, LEARN—which is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2—will bring together participants for 1 day to present a series of live cases, broadcast from across the country and moderated by a virtual panel of experts. LEARN will also incorporate the best of the FSP and SIR VIRtual by providing additional education through live didactic lecture, pre-recorded content, live chats and Q&As.

Fellows Spring

Practicum The FSP, previously scheduled for a 2-day meeting in Chicago, transitioned online for a 4-week, virtual program. Through May and June, 250 participants viewed 14 hours of recorded content in the SIR Learning Center and attended four 2-hour live panel and case discussions focusing on peripheral interventions, venous interventions, interventional oncology and early career development.

“Having a virtual FSP allowed us to reach a larger audience of trainees while providing the same high-quality, in-depth content that has been the cornerstone of the FSP experience,” said Luke R. Wilkins, MD, FSIR, an FSP course coordinator. “Using a live, case-based panel discussion with engaging faculty, we were able to maintain the interactive feature of FSP that is highly valued amongst the Fellows. We look forward to incorporating some of the lessons we have learned into future FSPs.”
