NALP LAUNCHES CONSUMER SITE FOR

NATIONAL AUDIENCE NEW WEBSITE PROVIDES LEADS FOR YOUR COMPANY

We recently launched our new website, LoveYourLandscape. org, which is the face of our new national consumer campaign. The website, along with its companion social media outlets, rivals HGTV.com and other consumer sites in the wealth of information and inspiration they provide from NALP members’ award winning work; the difference is that our website also promotes the importance of working with a professional and promotes the benefits of healthy lawns and landscapes. Every page of the website prominently features a link to the search database of our member companies. In addition to demonstrating our member’s expertise on the website, we will also be generating leads for your company. Please visit the website often and link to our articles from your social media outlets, blogs, client materials and your web- site. Also, please follow and link to our social media outlets. The new website has been developed under the new Indus-

try Growth Initiative through the support of member compa- nies. Please consider supporting the Industry Growth Initiative so that we can grow and expand our reach with consumers and decision makers. Visit www.landscapeprofessionals.org/indus- try-growth-initiative for more information. 7

8 THE LANDSCAPE PROFESSIONAL > MARCH/APRIL 2016

he National Collegiate Landscape Competition (formerly Student Career Days) has been building the future of the landscape industry for 40 years. We talked to some industry leaders who have been a part of this event as recruiters, teachers, chairs, and even as student competitors through the years about the value they see in the “olympics of the landscape industry.”

Q: WHY DO YOU FEEL THAT THIS EVENT IS IMPORTANT FOR OUR INDUSTRY?

A: It exposes the students to the industry and companies within the industry which prepares them for a much more impactful entry into our companies. The competitions are events that will prepare them as well. It also sets the tone for a professional atmosphere and gives the employers a chance to network with the students. I believe the students come away with a much better feel for the validity of our industry and just how many opportunities there are. (Alan Richmond, Vice President, People and Culture, South- ern Botanical, Inc.)

A: It indirectly forces students out of their comfort zone to learn and try to excel at something they wouldn’t have otherwise tried. (Eric Santos, Vice President of Irrigation Services, Brickman / ValleyCrest Companies)

A: It’s so helpful to get all these universities into one place. We do three other schools in the fall but could never achieve as far of a reach without this event. (Maria Candler, CEO, James River Grounds Management)

A: It showcases the top up and coming talent from the feeder schools. So many landscape companies are mom and pop startups, employing all family members and neighbors, that this weekend is a huge awakening to them, to be able to find entry level talent that is already more advanced than many of their current employees. It is also extremely important from the student point of view—there are so many companies of every size, shape, region, and type of work they do that every student should be able to find a company or two that they are interested in starting their career with. (Jennifer Wilson, Chief Estimator, SPSD, INC)
