DC FAQs By WSCA Staff What is this new
“Health Equity Training” requirement and does it apply to me?
As of January 1, a new recurring training requirement has been added for all healthcare licensees, including chiropractors. This requirement mandates that licensees undergo two hours of training on the subject every four years. Qualifying programs must be presented by instructors with demonstrated knowledge and experience relating to health equity and be based on current empirical research and known best practices on the topic. A number of licensees have expressed concern over the actual subject matter, what will be covered, and the underlying motives for the new requirement.
The purpose of the new requirement is not, as some have suggested, indoctrination on controversial topics, but rather to ensure that all healthcare providers are aware of disparities in accessing healthcare services and know the best solutions to minimize them for their patients. Among the approved subject matter are strategies for recognizing patterns of healthcare disparities, intercultural communication skills, implicit bias training and how to avoid it during assessment and diagnosis, methods for addressing the emotional well-being of children and youth of diverse backgrounds, ensuring equity and antiracism in care delivery, structural competency training, and cultural safety training.
The WSCA has not scheduled any such trainings just yet, but we will be implementing them later this year. Since this is an ongoing requirement, we will continue to offer such programs on a rolling basis, in much the same way we did with the implementation of suicide assessment and referral training back in 2016.

I’m still not sure what the rules are about continuing education. How many credits can I do online?
The COVID-era rules are no longer in effect. During the pandemic, you were allowed to do all continuing education online. But the pandemic is now over and the pre-pandemic rules have been back in effect since mid-November. Regardless of when your birthday is or when you took a particular continuing education course, here are the requirements you must adhere to now—
1. You must earn a minimum of 25 CE credits annually to renew your license.
2. Of those 25 required credits, a minimum of 13 must be earned via live, in-person trainings. (You can do all 25 in- person if you want, but a minimum of 13 must be in-person.)
3. While you can attend all the online courses you wish, a maximum of 12 online credits may be reported in furtherance of your annual license renewal.
4. Also of those 25 required credits, a maximum of 12 credits may be earned in topics relating to governmental regulations relevant to chiropractic and/or public health.
5. Also of those 25 required credits, a maximum of 4 credits may be earned for CPR courses.
6. All additionally required topics (such as the one-time suicide screening course or the new health equity training) count toward your 25 required credits and are not in addition to them.
7. For those licensees who have been assigned remedial continuing education as a result of a disciplinary action, those specific credits generally do not count toward your 25 annually required credits, unless otherwise specified in the order issued by the CQAC.
