The Community Outreach Committee is Keeping Our Beaches Clean

More than 60 members of the Chapter participated Saturday, September 8th in a Surfrider Foundation beach clean- up in Huntington Beach. It was one of the hottest days of the year and what better place to beat the end of summer heat wave than on the beach? Our group gathered over 50 pounds of trash — what an accomplishment!


According to Surfrider, an estimated 11 million tons of plastic enter ocean waters every year, which is the equivalent of a trash truck dumping a full load of plastics into our ocean every minute of every day of the year. At this rate, the amount of plastic pollution entering our ocean is currently doubling every six years. If these trends continue, the total weight of plastic pollution in our ocean could exceed the total weight of all fi sh in the ocean by 2050. This is why beach clean-ups and doing our part to keep our oceans clean is so important!


After combing the beach, lunch was generously provided by Antis Roofi ng in partnership with CA Love Drop. Attendees enjoyed Wahoo’s Fish Tacos burritos, Yogurtland frozen yogurt, and Monster beverages while enjoying the afternoon at the beach together. The Community Outreach Committee was pleased with the large turnout and sincerely thanks everyone who spent their day with us. We truly are building better communities together!
