Throwing the YELLOW FLAG and Enforcing the Rules Properly
By David Bloomberg, Esquire, Chuhak & Tecson PC T
he fall air is crisp, the tailgate buzz is wearing off, and the kickoff is upon us. The referees calling the game have been extensively trained to follow the rules that have been enacted (it’s now their full-time job after all) and to call penalties consistently for the entire game. That these penalties will occur is a certainty. The referee’s only job is to call the penalties fairly and objectively. The integrity of the entire game is on the line. Their bias cannot be present — only the refs’ fealty to the rules of the game are relevant to their job.
