The United Kingdom, The United States of America and the Home Owners Association all use different words to describe the same thing. In the UK - it’s a holiday, in the USA - it’s a trip, and in an HOA - it can be a “staycation.” When all is said and done… Ahh, vacation! Wish to escape the doldrums of our normal lives for a week or longer? Go somewhere interesting, fun and relaxing, somewhere far away?
The truth is, active adults want an active lifestyle…..so why not a “staycation”? Why not plan a vacation in your own backyard? A true “staycation” is intentional. The point of a “staycation” is to make it feel as much like a real getaway as possible, without leaving the comfort of your own home.

STAYCATION
Play Outside – Let’s go fly a kite, take a walk, or ride a bike on beautiful community trails. Walking is great
exercise and often a social event. If moving is not your idea of enjoyment, just take some time to bask in the sun.
Go Golfing – If your community offers a golf course, play the course with friends, family or join a league.
Mix leagues, couples’ leagues, men’s leagues and women’s leagues may be available. Even if you’re not an avid golfer, this is the perfect time to try it. Go to the course and take a couple of lessons.
Get Wet – Spend the day at a clubhouse pool lounging, swimming or enjoying a water exercise class.
Or if you would like to spend some quality time with your family head to the satellite pool if available. Water volleyball is an activity that provides great recreation!
12 | COMMON INTEREST®
Work on that Tennis Game – Outdoor tennis courts in many communities allow residents to get together
to engage in vigorous games. If that game becomes too strenuous, join or start a pickle ball league. Pickle-ball® was created with one thing in mind - fun. It is designed to be easy to learn and play whether you’re five, eighty- five or somewhere in between.
Take an Exercise Class – Improve your overall health and fitness, try water aerobics, Pilates, balance,
strength, tai chi quigong, exercise tune-ups or line dance classes.
Enjoy a Night at the Movies – Plan to attend a great movie with your friends and neighbors!
Shuffle Board, Bocce Ball & Horseshoe Tournaments – Your association may challenge
another. Great competition, great fun! Depending on your location some adult communities enjoy cross town competitions.
