“Fools rush in where angels fear to tread” is a popular idiom first coined by Alexander Pope in 1711 in his poem “An Essay in Criticism”. Over the centuries it has also been used by many authors including Edmund Burke, politicians including Abraham Lincoln, singers including Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, and has appeared in countless TV shows and movies. The phrase refers to the observation that often unwise or inexperienced people choose to take on situations that more experienced people avoid.
