4 top bucks average $3,375 at BPI By Pat Larr
The Bluegrass Performance Invitational has developed a rep- utation for showcasing high-quality, performance-tested Kiko goat genetics, the latest information about the meat goat industry and an exciting and efficient sale.
Thanks to the enthusiasm and experience of organizers, con- signors, bidders and volunteers from across the U.S., the 2025 event in Frankfort, Ky., on June 6-7 did not disappoint. The approximately 90 consignments were checked in Friday as participants enjoyed an afternoon of good fellowship and lively “goat talk”. Saturday morning’s seminars featured David Scales, Executive Director of the National Sheep Improvement Program, who dis- cussed use of the NSIP for Kiko goat herd improvement through data collection, input and analysis. Also featured was Dr. Tarrah Freud, DVM, who presented information about farm bio-security and goat herd health maintenance and improvement.
The auction began promptly at 1p.m. with auctioneer Josh Jasper and Joseph Knetter (Whistlin’ Dixie Kikos) doing a fine job of presenting the consignments and keeping the show rolling at an exciting pace. In addition to the sale animals, semen and embryo lots from performance-tested genetics were offered.
The stars of the show were four top performance-tested bucks that sold for an average of $3,375 each. The high-selling buck was consigned by Ron and Christian McGill and brought $3,700. The buck was purchased by Matthew Horst.
Toplivestock.com provided fast, user-friendly Internet access
to the sale. The high-selling doe also was consigned the McGills and purchased by Jeremy Harlow for $4,000.
The idea for an auction to highlight buck performance-test par- ticipants and related does and progeny grew out of the Western Mary- land Forage Only Test. Jarred and Deidre Dennison, JD Ranch Kikos, Waddy, Ky., established the BPI in 2014.

Current sale organizers are proud to carry on this performance- focused sale legacy. They include Jarred and Deidre, Pat Larr and Betty Joubert of Hoosier Hills Kiko Goats in Nabb, Ind.; Jim and Angie Loos of Red Ranch Goats in Liberty, IL; Wes and Bev Pinneo of B Bar W Kikos in Kincaid, Kan., and Tyler and Sydney Glasson of Glasson Farms in Irvine, Ky.
All these host farms have produced successful performance- tested stock for many years and are intent on continuing the BPI with a continued focus on performance. They will continue to enjoy com- ing to Frankfort each year at the beautiful Lakeside Park Facility.
