2024 KVMA Animal Hall of Fame ~ Luna

KVMA Animal Hall of Fame winner Luna with owners Jacob Drake and Jason Friedmann. Nominated by Jefferson Animal Hospital.

Luna Friedman is a retired greyhound. She was adopted by Jason Friedman and Jacob Drake shortly after the loss of their previous greyhound. Luna happened to be a descendant of their beloved pet and it was a match made in heaven. Luna has been a blood donor at Jefferson Animal Hospital since 2018. She has donated 31 times for a total amount of almost 3.5 gallons in that time. With each donation having the potential to save two to four, animals she has saved many lives. Her 30th donation was recently featured in a WHAS news piece about animal blood banks. Tat video can be viewed at the following link: https://youtu.be/ YOX7SjAjXXA?si=uFn9xRQlNMpdvRZn

Luna will be retiring from our program soon as she recently turned 8 years old. Blood donors typically retire between 8 and 9 years of age. Her 32nd donation will likely be her last so she can enjoy her much deserved retirement from saving lives. It has been a joy to have Luna as part of our donor family. 

Runner-up Golden Retriever Winston was nominated by Dr. Melinda Camus, Auburn University CVM. Owned by Mary Catherine Turner, LPC, Winston is a certified with the Alliance of Terapy Dogs and is an AKC Canine Good Citizen. He participates extensively at Auburn University with stress relief and individual therapy sessions for students, staff and faculty alike.
