Meet the Candidates Dr. Lauren Mirus - Nominee for KVMA Vice President
I am Lauren Mirus, a 2015 graduate of Auburn University College of Veterinary Med- icine. I began my career in Eastern Kentucky working at a small animal practice. Fol-
lowing my time there, I worked at Morehead State University teaching veterinary tech- nicians and advising pre-vet students. It was during this time that I developed a passion for organized veterinary medicine and became the Buffalo Trace Representative on the KVMA Executive Board in 2017. My learning curve was steep, and I quickly realized how naive I was to all the things that go on “behind the scenes” in our profession! Te past seven years of serving on the board have been nothing short of a whirlwind – we have been in the trenches together and on the mountaintop. I have landed among col- leagues who I now call friends, that have guided me along the way and have become great mentors. I am now an Associate Veterinarian at the West Liberty Veterinary Clinic in West Liberty, Kentucky. I am proud to serve Eastern Kentucky, especially in the current climate of the rural veterinary shortage.
I am interested in becoming the KVMA Vice President so that I can continue to protect and improve our profession as best as possible. My goal is to continue to enhance communication within our membership on all fronts – including communication regarding the legislative challenges that our profession faces. I am very passionate about the current rural veterinary shortage topic. Te KVMA has taken steps to improve this issue, but I hope to continue to be a part of finding a solution. Te KVMA has been growing since 2017 when I joined the board, and I hope to continue to increase membership and draw more graduates to Kentucky.
I am surrounded by veterinarians that are truly passionate about our profession, and I hope to continue the comradery we all share deep within us!
Dr. Katharine Armstrong - Nominee for KVMA Secretary/Treasurer
I am originally from Mayfield, Kentucky, and I moved to the Lexington area in December of 2022. I graduated from Auburn University CVM in May
2021, and am currently a small animal associate veterinarian in Georgetown, Kentucky. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with and learn from the KVMA since I graduated, and I am so excited at the opportunity to serve as the exec- utive Secretary/Treasurer if elected. Notably, I was lucky to selected as a part of the most recent KVMA Power of Ten group, which focuses on fostering leadership and communication skills in young veterinary professionals. I’m well aware that my experience is limited right now, but I know that I am more than capable of rising to the occasion. I would not be the veterinarian or the person I am today without the experiences I’ve had in the state of Kentucky, and I would love to start to give back to the state and to the organization that has supported my professional life so far.”
