1. Meeting called to order by Dr. Redmon. 2. Attendees of meeting: Drs. Ben Redmon, Brigette Dean-Hines, Wade King, Lauren Mirus, Matt McGlasson, Ernie Martinez, James Beckman, Frank Vice, Shawn Tussey, Cathryn Williams, Stacey Hutchison, Mandy Williams, Mark Chick, Marsha Bull, Chris Jolly and John Laster. Ms. Debra Hamelback and Joan Arnold. Guests: Jennifer Quammen, Jim Weber, Juila Bright-Crigler and Kate Hall.
3. Conflict of interest: None acknowledged. 4. Minutes of May meeting reviewed. Motion to approve by Dr. Martinez. Second by Dr. Dean-Hines. Motion passes.
5. Dr. Beckman presented an update from the working committee on the Equine Dental Bill. 6. Discussion of the Murray State Veterinary School proposal. 7. Discussion of a potential bill proposal regarding spay/neuters associated with shelters. 8. Update on the Kentucky Rural Vet Loan Repayment. Te committee received 26 applications. Five (5) applicants have been awarded the funding.
9. Michelle Shane provided an update from the KBVE. Tey have moved facilities and are trying to get their systems up and running. Regulations are pending related to the Allied Animal Health Permits. Tey anticipate posting forms for facility registrations as soon as possible.
10. Financial reports were presented by Dr. Mirus. Additionally, a 2-year Compilation Report was presented. KVMA remains in good financial standing.
11. Dr. Ben Redmon presented elected officer nominations for 2025. Dr. Lauren Mirus has been nominated to serve as the 2025 KVMA Vice President. Dr. Katherine Armstrong has been recommended as the Secretary/ Treasurer. Both have accepted nominations.
12. Discussed the AVMA President Elect Nominees—Dr. Jennifer Quammen from Kentucky and Dr. Mary Ergan from Tennessee. Reviewed description of position.
13. A motion was made to support the Kentucky Proud magazine. Dr. Martinez made a motion to sponsor a KVMA advertisement for up to $3,800.00. Dr. Beckman seconded the motion. Motion passes.
14. KVMA Executive Board planning to send some members to the student chapters at Auburn CVM and LMU.
15. KVMA membership dues have not changed in 18 years. Due to increase in expenses, a motion was made by Dr. Bridgette Dean Hines to propose a recommendation to the KVMA membership at the annual meeting to increase membership dues to $200.00 per year. A second motion was made by Dr. Tussey. Motion passes.
16. Meeting went into closed session to discuss contract of Ms. Hamelback. 17. Ms. Hamelback discussed formation of Industry Partner Group with pharmaceutical groups. 18. A motion was made by Dr. Martinez to support Kentucky Horse Council with a $1,500.00 sponsorship to the Large Animal Emergency Rescue Training. Second motion made by Dr. Jolly. All in favor, motion carried.
19. Dr. King presented an update on the 2024 Mid-America Conference that is coming up on September 13-15th at the Central Bank Center in Lexington. Future conference sites were discussed.
20. Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association plans to develop a working group with DVMs to promote better communication with DVMs and producers. Tere will be four (4) veterinarians to serve on this working committee.
21. Dr. Vice presented an update from the AVMA. 22. Te KVMA Foundation Clay shoot will take place on August 22nd. 23. Upcoming Board Meetings a.
