Clinical practice RESOURCES
SIR is dedicated to supporting members in the practice model of their choice. Below are just a handful of resources and initiatives SIR provides members to help them deliver the best care possible.
IR Business Center: In 2022, SIR launched the IR Business Center (IRBC)—a resource hub dedicated to improving practice effi ciency and revenue. IRBC tools and resources range from practice start-up to branding and marketing materials. The IRBC houses more than 150 resources and are free or discounted to SIR members.
Standardized reports: Standardized reporting can improve reimbursement rates, decrease denials, improve workfl ow and make it easier for large-picture data capture, such as with data registries.
Clinical Guidelines app: SIR’s clinical practice guidelines, position statements and expert consensus statements promote evidence- based therapies, guide clinical decision-making and advocate for patient-centered care. With the
SIR Guidelines mobile app, members can access SIR’s published guidelines and statements at their fi ngertips.
Quality improvement toolkits: SIR’s quality and performance improvement toolkits were developed to guide physicians and other healthcare professionals in making informed decisions about patient care. They provide evidence-based recommendations and best practices covering diff erent interventional radiology topics, including:
• How to Conduct a Quality Improvement Project • IVC Filter Removal • Percutaneous Image-guided Biopsy
• Renal Ablation Lesion Selection and Minimizing Adverse Events
• Follow up After Locoregional Liver Treatments in Patients with Cancer
• Achieving Appropriate Periprocedural Pain Management in IR
Coding education and resources: As of 2025, there are 873 dedicated IR CPT codes. SIR’s Clinical & Practice Aff airs Division, along with members of the Economics Committee, help IRs keep up-to-date with these developments through a series of resources:
• Annual Coding Webinar: This yearly webinar is available on SIR Now and provides an overview of the coding and billing changes that take place each year.
• The IR Coding Update: Published yearly, this resource provides information critical to physicians, administrators and coders with practical advice and information on coding for common interventional radiological and endovascular procedures.
• Coding Q&A and IR Coding and Reimbursement Digest: Coding Q&A is a quarterly column that runs in IRQ and answers common coding questions, while the IR Coding and Reimbursement Digest provides monthly updates and education.
• Navigator® Interventional Radiology Procedures Medical Coding Guide: Published yearly, this is the defi nitive coding guide for all interventional radiology procedures. This detailed manual off ers extensive coverage of techniques and billing guidelines to support coders and billing professionals in enhancing their practice's operational eff ectiveness.
Clinical quality measures: SIR stewards four clinical quality measures. These clinical quality measures are included for reporting to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) program and within MIPS Value Pathways (MVPs). SIR follows the principles of measurement science using a rigorous, evidence-based and multi-disciplinary approach that aims to link supporting evidence with outcomes, reduce variations in care and reinforce the feasibility of measure implementation.
• Varicose vein treatment with saphenous ablation: Outcomes survey • Appropriate assessment of retrievable inferior vena cava (IVC) fi lters for removal
• Uterine artery embolization technique: Documentation of angiographic endpoints and interrogation of ovarian arteries
• Door to puncture time for endovascular stroke treatment 12 IRQ | WINTER 2025
