SIR and SIR Foundation updates As seen on SIR Connect: Bestseller showcases IR’s life-saving impact

Sebastian Junger, author of The Perfect Storm, has recently published a new book titled In My Time of Dying. The book highlights the life-saving skills of SIR member Philip J. Dombrowski, MD, who not only saved Mr. Junger’s life but also inspired his narrative. Positive stories like this help increase awareness of IR’s pivotal role in high- quality patient care. To learn more and hear from Dr. Dombrowski and Mr. Junger, be sure to watch for an upcoming episode of the Kinked Wire!

SIR issues new report to spotlight UFE

SIR issued an updated version of its Fibroid Fix report on July 9, highlighting new data about fi broid and UFE awareness. According to a Harris Poll that SIR commissioned, 53% of women diagnosed with fi broids are presented with hysterectomy as their only treatment option. Of those who heard of UFE, 60% of them learned about it from sources other than their healthcare provider.

July is Fibroid Awareness Month and the new report allows

the SIR communications team to capitalize on the attention around fi broids to put a spotlight on the benefi ts of UFE over hysterectomy and other fi broid treatments.

You can read the full report and new patient essays at sirweb.org/fi broidfi x and view the press release in the media center on the SIR website.

Interested in spreading the word about UFE? Access the UFE Awareness Toolkit on sirweb.org to download graphics and messaging to share on your social media channels using the hashtag #FibroidFix.

Thank you to the Women’s Health Council for advancing this initiative and to John Lipman, MD, FSIR, and Nicole Lamparello, MD, for connecting us with their patients, who have been so generous in sharing their stories with the public.

Carrier advocacy coverage letters are an SIR membership benefi t and can be accessed for free in the IR Business Center.
