LETTER FROM THE CEO
A Look at NALP Future Strategy…and a Quick Thank You
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE REGULAR READERS OF THE COLUMN (GOD LOVE YOU…) YOU know I used my last column to look back on the past five years. So, in the spirit of the new year, I would like to look forward to some new things that are brewing here at NALP. And let’s begin by looking at our future strategy.
With many changes and a whole lot of growth
over the past five years, NALP is a much more sta- ble organization than it was five years ago. So, what that means for the NALP members and the NALP board that represents that membership is there is an opportunity to focus on what the association has to do to better serve the members rather than worry about how they are going to fix the associa- tion. The concept of looking to the future without some of the burdens of that past is something that is very exciting. With that said, we are going to need your help.
NALP has engaged with Potomac Core to assist us in a new strategic planning process. A large part of that process will be to engage all of our members in a survey to better understand what your needs are and how NALP can do a better job of fulfilling them. This is where we need your help. We will be asking you all to give us your thoughts on the industry and where its going. Your feedback will be the base that helps us define what the industry’s future vision, as well as diagnose some of the future-focused challenges will come with that vision so NALP can begin to develop resources to help the industry navigate those challenges. This survey will be headed your way in March, so please keep an eye out for it. And I assure you, completing it will require some thought and a little bit of time on your part, but it will be fundamentally easy to complete and you will love what comes out of it. I say that as the head of Potomac Core, Dan Varroney has worked with other associations in a similar way and the results
have been remarkable. As he details in his book
“Reimaging Industry Growth: Strategic Partnerships in an Era of Uncertainty,” many of the associations who have worked with Potomac Core have been able to develop a strategic industry objective which has led them to deliver “…a blueprint to harness- ing the power of leading industry associations as strategic partners. By utilizing those partnerships, business leaders will become able to leverage the collective strength of the supply chain to overcome challenges, address uncertainty, mitigate risks, and position their industries for growth.” Needless to say, all of us on the staff of NALP
are excited to see where this process will take us in the future. And as we talk about the future, this project will take a while. While we will get your feedback from the survey in April, the investigative and planning process will continue all the way into November 2025. So, as we kick off then next ELEVATE, we will be ready to begin executing our new strategic plan, which of course, we will share with you as soon as we have it ready. So please stay tuned, I assure you that you will like what you see and hear. Finally, I wanted to end my column by looking back and saying thank you to the wonderful NALP team for a wonderful 2024. Thank you, Allegra, Amee, Amy, Andrew, Bob, Carol, Claire, Corey, Dar- by, Demi, Heather, Jenn, Jenny, Jill, Karla, Kayla, Kim, Kristen, Lisa, Margo, Meghann, Nitesh, Page, Pam, Scott, Stacia, Shane, Terence, Tiffany and Tony! You all are such a wonderful group of professionals that I am truly blessed to work with. You did an amazing job last year and will do even better this year, I’m sure of it!
Britt Wood
