The recipe for effectively working with CIC’s requires many different ingredients, or areas of knowledge—financial, insurance, project management, human relations, effective communication, and facility management—to name a few.

How To Measure Growth & Success

To effectively measure your individual growth and success, you must first identify your knowledge level in each area, then determine when and how you want to expand that knowledge. There are many industry resources at your fingertips to help you—some examples are classes through WSCAI, or more specialized education through relationships with business partners in the various industries. There are CAI designations and educational offerings for managers and business partners, and educational offerings for board members and homeowners as well—some of which are FREE for members.

Networking with peers can help guide you through challenges.

Utilizing the experience and knowledge within the WSCAI network is one of the most valuable tools in our industry, and often an overlooked ingredient for success. Networking with peers and other industry experts can not only help guide you through challenging situations, but also provides a support system of people who have been there, and maybe even found a creative solution for a specific issue. At the very least you might be able to find some comic relief for a situation you might be dealing with because let’s face it…all kinds of interesting things happen in this industry. You might also find someone to be a professional development accountability partner, a mentor or mentee, or just a buddy to attend events with.

Your Network is Your Net Worth

Jim Rohn (and others) have been quoted as saying “Your network is your net worth.” I know some of these events are on an evening or a Saturday and outside of a time you want to be thinking about work, but the relationships and knowledge I have gleaned through attending networking events in this industry are invaluable. I cannot begin to count the many events I have attended over my years in the business—some even at my own expense. I have always walked away with at least a couple of nuggets of information and feeling that it was worth every penny and every minute spent. Whether you are spending your time, or your money, consider it an investment in yourself and your future, and a way of adding ingredients to YOUR recipe for success.

Plugging Away With No Plan?

The clock keeps on ticking, regardless of how time is spent, and it is easy to just keep plugging along, without a plan. The good news is that there is no one precise recipe—just as in cooking, you can be creative, and tailor the ingredients to your goals. There is no single measure of success. True success is best measured by evaluating your own growth, rather than comparing yourself to others.
