President’s Message
Hello Chapter Members! I’m excited that summer has finally arrived! I love seeing that bright orange ball in the sky. I’ve always said there’s no place better to be
than the Pacific Northwest in the summer. We have huge mountains, green trees and flowers blooming everywhere, the desert (in Eastern Washington), and so many bodies of water—lakes, rivers and even the ocean. I’m so thankful to live in such a beautiful place. I feel like a kid on summer break and want to take adventures around the state—even though I’ve lived here my entire life.
We recently took a day trip to Snoqualmie Falls with the family and hiked to the bottom. We also took a trip to Lake Chelan for a weekend. I can’t get enough of that place – the gorgeous mountains in the backdrop of the bright blue lake. Getting away for even a day or two can help you re-charge. You don’t have to spend much money to take a hike or scenic drive around Washington. Check out “scenic road trips” on Google. There are so many short distance trips or longer jaunts. Have you taken a ferry lately? Even in your own backyard, there are lots of activities planned in the summer – the local fairs, festivals, farmers markets and concerts in the park to name a few. A Mariner’s game is a blast, especially when they’re playing so well!
My company likes us to give back to the community, so I’ve been researching local charities. There are so many things you can do to help others. The one I do on a regular basis is donate blood at Bloodworks Northwest. There is a great demand for blood right now and it’s easy to do. The food banks are always in need as well. Donating a little time or resources if you have them can make a big difference in someone else’s life. Do a search for charities near you. You can also contribute to one of the charities our Chapter supports, which are tagged in many of our events.
Even in the summer months, our Chapter is buzzing with events. I hope you’re taking advantage of our FREE education! If you’re a WSCAI member homeowner or board member, register early for our next webinar in the monthly series designed specifically for you. Tune in August 11 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. to hear “How Clean Building Performance Standard Will Affect Your Building.” It will be a discussion
6 Community Associations Journal | July-August 2022 Jackie’s family together at beautiful Snoqualmie Falls.
on how this new climate change-driven law will directly affect multifamily buildings, future projects, occupants, reserve studies, budgets and more.
If you’re a manager, the next Managers Only Meeting is about budgeting for Reserves and will be held on August 25.
As for outdoor events, we just finished a golf tournament! It’s so much fun to see everyone at the course. Another one of our great summer events is our Annual Kickball Tournament. It will be held at 3:00 p.m. on August 23 at Hidden Valley Sports Park in Bellevue. You don’t need experience to play or any special equipment (like baseball or softball). We provide everything you need, and you even get a shirt to take home! If you don’t want to play, I supply pom poms for our cheering section. You don’t want to miss it! We’ll also have a Chapter Mixer afterwards in Bellevue if you’d like to join us there. Make sure you register for both on our website.
Thank you for those who participated in our Chapter Survey. We so appreciated your feedback. We are analyzing the results to determine what changes we can make and what we need to keep doing.
If you’d like to be more involved with the Chapter, please consider joining a WSCAI committee. Several committees are looking for additional members. Speaking of members, if you know someone in your community or in other communities that are not members of WSCAI, please send them our way! If you let Michelle Leary know about them, you’ll get points in our membership drive and could even win some cash. Email
Michelle.Leary@wscai.org with an introduction and their contact information.
I hope to see you at one of our upcoming events. Go outside and have some fun!
