President’s Message

Hello Chapter Members! What an amazing time of year Spring is! As the days are getting longer and warmer, I find myself coming out of my cocoon, visiting

with neighbors, and spending even more time on long walks with our now one-year old puppy, Archie. I’ll be glad when our early morning walks are not completely in the dark! I’m continuing to plant more seeds and repot the seedlings already started for my cut flower garden this year. In some ways, it seems the seedlings I planted earlier this year have hardly grown at all, but I know that once the soil gets warm around Mother’s Day, I’ll be able to plant them outside and with some fertilizer, they will grow into full plants, producing beautiful flowers and vegetables all summer long.

We’re experimenting with hybrid events for members living outside of the greater Puget Sound region.

As I mentioned last month, your WSCAI Chapter Staff, Board, and all 12 Committees have been hard at work in developing great events and educational opportunities as well as promoting them. It seems I’m not the only one emerging from the cocoons of the past season and past years. Our events are selling out, and we’re experimenting with hybrid events for the first time. If successful, we will be providing more opportunities for those members living outside of the greater Puget Sound region to attend educational events virtually.

WSCAI Monday Minute

Throughout this year, I have been sitting in on WSCAI committee meetings and learning a great deal. I would like to take the time to point out our LAC (Legal Action Committee) as they have been meeting weekly prior to and during the current legislative session. Every year, the WSCAI

6 Community Associations Journal | April 2023

Andrea is gearing up for warmer and brighter days!

LAC members provide input on the housing bills brought before the Washington State Legislature. This year there were over 30 bills! The WSCAI Monday Minute email update provides a weekly update on the bills that could affect common interest communities the most. Thanks to your interest and active participation, many have been motivated by this email to provide testimony on the most crucial bills this session.

If you haven’t signed up yet, you can do so via this link or the QR code here.

As additional planned communities are built further away from our major cities and additional dwelling units (ADU’s) are built in the metro areas, it’s evident that common interest communities will continue to grow and be more of a voice in Washington state.

See You at Law Day

I hope to see many of you at this year’s WSCAI Law Day on Saturday, April 29th, at the Lynnwood Convention Center, where the State’s top professionals will explain how to be in compliance with the laws already in place, which bills became laws during the 2023 legislative session, and where you can meet and connect with WSCAI business partners from all categories serving common interest communities. All proceeds from Law Day benefit our LAC and its efforts in Olympia.

See you soon! Andrea Goodmansen, Chapter President (206) 545-7837 | andrea@mcleodconstruction.com
