The Distinguished Service Award is presented to WSCA Board members as they end their terms and cycle out of leadership positions. Although only one such person cycled off the Board this year, we presented the award to two individuals. The first award was presented to outgoing Past President,    of Belfair. The second award was presented to someone who isn’t technically a member of the Board, but

whose continuous support and guidance has been freely offered to the Board for decades—attorney Richard Adler.

The Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to a DC who has expended significant time and effort in support of the WSCA or a local chiropractic society. This year’s honoree is integral to the success of two regional seminars offered through a local chiropractic society. Dr. Andria Goff of Wenatchee plans and produces the Wenatchee Fall Seminar and the Moses Lake Seminar delivering continuing education throughout Central Washington while keeping area DCs connected.

The  is given at the discretion of the outgoing president to recognize those individuals who were instrumental in helping them through their term of office. This year, Dr. Kimberly Palmer-Yee chose to recognize two people—her mentor, Dr. Michael Kinnear of Federal Way, and her husband, Dr. Edward Yee. Following the presentation of these two awards, incoming president, Dr. Chad Hurst, presented to   the  . This gift is a token of appreciation from the Board of Directors to the outgoing president and features a personalized inscription along with the WSCA logo.

The Outstanding Service Award recognizes a DC who has given exceptional service to their community, both within and outside of chiropractic. This year’s awardee was  who was recognized for his work in his multiple practices around the Tri-Cities area, his service on the WSCA Board of Directors, his regular contributions to Plexus magazine, and his service on the West Richland city council. Additionally, he coaches youth football, baseball, and wrestling, is a Cub Scout

The final award is the association’s highest honor—the Chiropractor of the Year Award. This year’s recipient is one of the most actively engaged DCs promoting the profession throughout the country. Dr. Ron Wilcox of Tumwater is the current District 10 Representative on the WSCA Board of Directors, as well as the current (national) District 5 representative to the Clinical Compass, an initiative of ChiroCongress promoting evidence-based research in support of chiropractic. He sat on the Industrial Insurance Chiropractic Advisory Committee for nearly 17 years, has been an advisor to the Center for Occupational Health and Education for the past decade, and teaches the Chiropractic Consultant and Independent Medical Examiner programs for the Department of Labor and Industries each year. Additionally, he is the WSCA’s representative to the Washington Health Alliance, serving on its multidisciplinary low back pain task force.

In addition to these awards, a special announcement was also made expressing gratitude to several members of the  County Chiropractors, a local chiropractic society that opted to cease operations this year. In closing out their operations, they had a remaining balance in the organization’s bank account. These DCs generously pledged those funds to the WSCA to seed the educational foundation the association is currently establishing. Special thanks were offered to Drs. Larry Bain and Harley Youngblood, as well as the late .
