Robert Jason Grant, EdD, LPC, CAS, RPT-S, Chair, APT Board of Directors

The Association for Play Therapy (APT) Ends Policy 5.05 states that mentalhealthprofessionalscan               community. As I look back on this past year as Chair of the APT Board of Directors and every year I have been involved with APT, I am impressed by how well this ends policy is achieved year to year.

It was like stepping into a multiverse of “my people” who spoke “my language.” I can remember multiple experiences of being casually in the presence of play therapy leaders and influencers that I had (up until that point) only read about – randomly talking to Dr. Garry Landreth in a hallway,  treasure.

I often thankfully reflect on the insight and fortitude of our APT founders (Schaefer and O’Connor) who developed this association, and all our play therapy leaders who created conferences, developed play therapy theories, wrote books, offered trainings, and conducted research when play therapy was little known. They saw the vision; they persevered and held to their commitment and now we are celebrating our 40th birthday this year!

I am excited to see all of you at the APT conference in St. Louis in October to celebrate our 40th birthday. A continuation of our vibrant community and commitment to carrying on the work of play therapy into the next year and beyond!
