SPECIAL SECTION 2018 Awards of Excellence


Congratulations 2018 Awards of Excellence winners! These awards are designed to honor those members who represent the collective values of the play therapy community. Nominations for the 2018 Awards were evaluated by Kara Carnes Holt, PhD, LPC, RPT-S and the 19- member committee. This year marks the second installment of the Emerging Leader Award, which recognizes young professionals, with no more than 10 years of being fully licensed, who have made substantial contributions to APT and play therapy.

Emerging Leader Service Award


Julie Nash, PhD, RPT-S for outstanding organizational service to APT, its Foundation for Play Therapy, and/or its chartered branches, by a member fully licensed for 10 years or less,


 play, play therapy, and credentialed play therapists.


Julie is a Leadership Graduate, has served on her state branch board of directors from 2011-2017 and is currently the New England APT Branch President. She has served on the Nominations Committee, Conference Committee, and has been an active reviewer on the Play Therapy™ Magazine committee since 2013.


APT Service Award


Angela Cavett, PhD, RPT-S for outstanding organizational service and contributions to APT, its Foundation for Play Therapy, and/or its chartered branches    promotes, or advances the value


of play, play therapy, and credentialed play therapists.


Angela is an APT Leadership Graduate and has served on numerous committees,


including: Awards of Excellence,


Conference Program, Leadership Academy, Mining Report, Nominations, Registration and CE Committee, and Research. She was instrumental in the formation of APT’s newest State Branch in North Dakota, and now serves as the North Dakota Branch President.


Student Research Award  therapy, and credentialed play therapists, this award may be presented to more than one individual a year, but is not presented if not merited.
